Before Treatment
Well before treatment: If you have any health conditions that impact your skin, heart, blood or hair growth you should always consult your physician first.
At least 1 week before appointment: Stop bleaching hair in the treatment area. The harder hair is to see, the harder it is to remove. Allow your hair to grow back to 1/16” to 1/8”, so your electrologist can see your roots and the hair can be gripped.
At least 1 week before appointment: Stop using any products containing retinoids.
4-5 days before appointment: Dense hair growth areas like the bikini, groin or beard should be shaved to so hair is in the Anagen, or growth, phase. Regrowth should be at least 1/16” to 1/8” in length for your appointment so it can be gripped.
48 hours before appointment: Stay out of the sun to avoid dilation of the blood vessels.
Day of appointment: Arrive to your appointment well hydrated and with clean skin.
Day of appointment: Refrain from applying make-up, deodorants or any other products that may clog the pores of the area being treated.
Day of appointment: Apply a numbing cream from the pharmacy or ask your doctor to prescribe one that’s a bit stronger. For added relief, take a pain relief tablet like Tylenol or Advil.
After Treatment
Expect some swelling and redness of the treatment area. Scabbing and minor bruising are also normal. We will apply witch hazel & aloe vera at the end of your treatment and give you specific tips about other products that may be right for you.
Schedule Your Next Appointment according to the treatment plan decided upon in your consultation.
Keep the area clean and apply a cold compress to minimize swelling and aloe vera to soothe.
Avoid rubbing, scratching, and touching the treated area, especially within the first day after treatment. Scab formation is normal after electrolysis. Scabs should never be picked - it can cause scarring and an increased chance of infection.
For the first day following treatment, avoid any products containing isopropyl alcohol (like perfume), which will cause discomfort and irritation in the treated area while your pores are still open. Avoid make-up, deodorants or products that may clog the open pores.
Excessive sweating can cause bacteria growth and infection - avoid intense workouts and saunas for the first day following your treatment while pores close.
Between Appointments: Do not wax, tweeze, thread or sugar any hair in the targeted treatment area. Remember, hair should be 1/16” to 1/8” long at treatment time, so your electrologist can see your roots and the hair can be gripped.
